About the Role

As a Registered Nurse within the Home-Based Treatment Team (HBTT), youll provide intensive, shortterm mental health support to tāngata whaiora and their whānau in their own homes and community settings. Using advanced nursing assessment, therapeutic communication and evidencebased practice, youll determine health needs, plan care, and deliver timely interventions that promote safety, autonomy and recovery.

Working from He Tāwharau - Crisis Hub, youll contribute to crisis response, acute care planning, mental health assessments, and homebased treatment designed to prevent hospital admission where safe and appropriate. Accurate documentation, privacy, and culturally responsive practice will be central to your work. You may also take on portfolio responsibilities and support the learning of new staff and students.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Home-Based Treatment Team is part of Te Whatu Oras community mental health services and operates from He Tāwharau - Crisis Hub in Hawkes Bay. The team provides an alternative to inpatient admission by delivering acute mental health care directly in the home environment.

Youll work closely with Clinical Coordinators, mental health assistants, nurses, allied health professionals, medical staff, and Māori and Pacific health partners across the locality. Collaboration, whanaungatanga, and commitment to equity underpin all aspects of service delivery. The team values partnership, safety, highquality care, and the principles of Te Mauri o Rongo.

About you

Youre an experienced mental health nurse who brings compassion, resilience, and excellent clinical judgement to fastpaced, communitybased acute work. To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A postgraduate qualification specific to mental health and addiction
  • Current NZ Nursing Council registration and valid APC
  • Strong understanding and application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
  • Effective timemanagement and teamwork skills
  • Ability to engage therapeutically with tāngata whaiora and whānau
  • Commitment to maintaining your PDRP and ongoing development
  • Experience as a Duly Authorised Officer (DAO) or willingness to complete DAO training within six months

This role requires strong selfawareness, reliability, and the ability to remain calm and effective when working with people in distress.
