DEPARTMENT: Digital Operations (Brands & Licensing)
LOCATION: London - TVC
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £55,000 - £60,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. Plus London Weighting Allowance of £5,441 and 15% bonus. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Purpose of the Role

This role is a 12‑month Fixed Term contract. The Lead Project Manager is a new position within the “Digital Operations – Projects” function of the Business Planning and Operations unit of the Digital Division of BBC Studios Brands & Licensing. It reports to the Change & Transformation Lead and supports the transition of the function from Operations under the Digital Change team.

Key Responsibilities and Impact

Project and Programme Delivery

  • Lead the end‑to‑end delivery of longer‑term, complex or strategically significant transformational operational projects aligned to the commercial priorities of the Digital Division.
  • Support programme‑level planning, sequencing and dependency management across multiple projects and workstreams.
  • Work closely with the Change & Transformation Lead to shape delivery approaches, define scope, outcomes, success measures and governance.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to quality, proactively managing risks, issues and interdependencies.

Leadership and Oversight

  • Provide line management, coaching and professional development support to the Operations Project Manager, ensuring clarity of priorities, high delivery standards and effective workload management.
  • Provide oversight and assurance of operational change project delivery, reviewing plans, risks, reporting and outcomes.
  • Act as a senior point of escalation for delivery challenges within the operational project portfolio.

Stakeholder Management and Communication

  • Build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Operations, Digital, Technology and wider BBC Studios teams.
  • Maintain clear, consistent and appropriate communication with the Senior Leadership Team, providing concise updates on progress, risks, dependencies and decisions required.
  • Translate complex delivery information into clear, actionable insights for non‑specialist audiences.

Planning, Governance and Ways of Working

  • Establish and maintain appropriate project and programme governance, aligned with BBC Studios standards and best practice.
  • Select and apply suitable project and programme management methodologies (e.g. waterfall, agile or hybrid) depending on context.
  • Drive continuous improvement in delivery practices, tools, templates and reporting across the Operations project function.

Operational Partnership and Continuous Improvement

  • Develop a deep understanding of how the Digital Division operates, proactively identifying opportunities for efficiency, improvement and transformation across processes, tools and ways of working.
  • Work collaboratively with Operations, Delivery, Brands & Content, Compliance, Archive, Video and Technology teams to ensure smooth transition of projects into BAU.
  • Ensure projects comply with relevant BBC Studios policies, regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
Skills and Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Significant experience leading complex projects and/or programmes to successful outcomes in a fast‑paced environment focusing on change / transformation.
  • Experience line‑managing, coaching or mentoring project managers or delivery professionals.
  • Strong working knowledge of the full project lifecycle, with the ability to flex methodologies and tools to suit context.
  • Experience working across business operations, technology, infrastructure, publishing, compliance or security‑related projects.
  • Strong risk, dependency, resource and financial management capability.
  • Strong digital literacy, including use of Microsoft Office and project delivery tools.

Desired but not Required

  • Experience delivering operational change within a digital media or content‑led organisation.
  • Professional development through a recognised project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2, APM, Agile, Scrum).
  • Experience using Monday.com.
  • Experience supporting or operating within a change and transformation function.
  • Recognised change management qualification (e.g. Prosci or Adcar).
