Water Infrastructure and Planning Manager – North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Water Infrastructure and Planning Manager to lead a critical function within our Fire and Rescue Service. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of firefighting infrastructure and ensure our crews have the water resources they need—when and where they need them.

You’ll be at the forefront of ensuring our water infrastructure meets the demands of modern firefighting. From managing hydrant networks and influencing planning decisions to developing income‑generating partnerships, your work will directly support our emergency response capabilities and long‑term resilience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning and delivery of water supply infrastructure across the service area.
  • Collaborate with water authorities, developers, and planning teams to secure reliable firefighting water sources.
  • Oversee inspections, audits, and maintenance of hydrants and other water assets.
  • Ensure compliance with national standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage a high‑performing team, driving continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Explore and develop commercial opportunities to generate income from private hydrants, dry risers, and fire extinguisher services.

Essential Requirements

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • A good standard of education (GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths or equivalent).
  • Intermediate IT skills, particularly in MS Office applications.
  • Experience in financial planning and budget monitoring.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and diplomacy abilities.
  • Sound judgement based on evidence and analysis.
  • The ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience working with Local Authorities or Public Utilities.
  • Knowledge of firefighting water supplies and associated infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with Graphical Information Systems (GIS).
  • Understanding of Fire Service operations or emergency response procedures.

Closing date – 31st December 2025

Interviews – Early January

We look forward to receiving your online application!
