The Growth Company’s (GC) Business Development Team have a fantastic vacancy for someone with excellent writing skills. The Bid Writer role will be focused on writing clear and persuasive proposals to win new and retain existing business across our key markets (Employment Services, Justice and Health). As the role is primarily home-based, strong online collaboration skills are vital. We welcome applications from candidates regardless of location with an expectation of participating in remote activities and twice monthly in-person meetings in Manchester.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of high-quality, competitive bid responses, ensuring alignment with client specifications and scoring criteria. This includes managing EOIs, SSQs/PSQs, ITTs, and full proposals across a range of sectors and funding bodies.
  • Coordinate and manage the full bid lifecycle, providing oversight through all stages in accordance with governance processes and best practices, while ensuring timely and compliant submissions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners: including business units, solution design, supply chain, and finance to gather insights and develop compelling, tailored content.
  • Lead on storyboarding, drafting, and editing responses, ensuring all requirements are understood and addressed, and provide constructive feedback to other writers to enhance quality.
  • Represent GC in presentations, supplier meetings, and dialogue with clients during early engagement, clarification, and post-tender negotiations.
  • Review successful and unsuccessful bids to extract insights and drive continuous improvement in future submissions.
  • Maintain and improve bid documentation, including method statements, diagrams, and best practice content, adapting them for specific opportunities and markets.
  • Monitor market intelligence and networks to identify new bidding opportunities and ensure GC remains competitive and responsive to emerging prospects.
About You
  • A proactive, detail-oriented professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and can manage multiple priorities with confidence and clarity.
  • Comfortable working remotely and collaborating effectively through digital platforms, with a strong sense of initiative and accountability.
  • Flexible and deadline-driven, with the ability to work non-standard hours when required to meet critical deadlines.
Skills Required
  • Proven success in leading and writing winning multi-million-pound public sector bids, with a solid understanding of what constitutes a high-scoring response.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, persuasive content.
  • Strong analytical, research, and project management skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
  • Familiarity with public sector procurement practices and tendering portals, and experience working with national and local government departments and agencies.
  • Skilled in leading storyboarding sessions, managing review processes, and producing final documents to a high standard.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant tools, with the ability to manage and maintain bid libraries and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of public commissioning, employment, justice, skills, B2B sales, and programmes in business support.
