Who You Are

You are a scientifically trained professional with strong hands‑on experience supporting advanced research technologies. You excel at installing, optimizing, and troubleshooting complex scientific instruments in customer environments. You’re skilled at translating scientific needs into practical technical solutions and ensuring that systems integrate smoothly into real‑world workflows. You communicate clearly, solve problems proactively, and build strong relationships with users, making you a trusted partner in helping customers get the most out of their tools.

The Position

This position is a dual‑function role, combining both Scientific Application Support and Technical Service & Engineering. The Field Application Scientist is expected to operate confidently in both areas, supporting customers scientifically while also providing hands‑on technical service in the field.

The Field Application Scientist (FAS) plays a critical role in ensuring customers across the UK can successfully adopt, operate, and maximize the value of advanced scientific technologies. This position combines scientific application expertise with hands‑on technical service, supporting customers from installation through full workflow integration.

As a key technical partner, the FAS provides on‑site and remote support, delivers training, resolves complex issues, and collaborates closely with R&D, engineering, and commercial teams to ensure customer success.

You will help bridge the gap between scientific research needs and the practical realities of instrument performance, ensuring that systems are not only functional but fully optimized within each customer’s unique environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (biology, chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, physics, or related field) or equivalent industry experience.
  • At least 5 years of hands‑on experience working with scientific instruments, laboratory equipment, or analytical technologies.
  • 5+ years in a customer‑facing technical role such as field service, technical support, or scientific applications.
  • Based in the UK or surrounding areas, with the ability to travel 50–60% across the UK and broader EMEA region.
  • Demonstrated ability to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot scientific instruments or technical systems.
  • Strong understanding of scientific workflows and the ability to translate complex concepts into practical applications.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills for training, demonstrations, and customer interactions.
  • Proven ability to work independently in customer environments with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Prior experience as a Field Application Scientist, Field Service Engineer, or hybrid role supporting complex instrumentation.
  • Background in viscometry, rheometry, fluid dynamics, or related scientific instrumentation, with the ability to support technical discussions and customer applications.
  • Experience supporting customers across multiple EMEA countries.
  • Familiarity with regulatory, safety, or quality standards relevant to laboratory or industrial environments.
  • Experience with CRM or service management platforms (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce, ServiceMax).
  • Demonstrated success delivering customer training, workshops, or scientific presentations.
  • Experience working with cross‑functional teams such as R&D, engineering, sales, and product management.
  • Strong project management skills and experience coordinating installations or multi‑site deployments.
  • Ability to analyze customer feedback and contribute to product improvement discussions.
Physical Requirements

These physical requirements are not exhaustive, and additional job‑related physical requirements may be added to these on an as‑needed basis.

  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 25–50 lbs as needed
  • Ability to stand, walk, or move between work areas within the production and manufacturing environment
  • Ability to use standard material‑handling tools or equipment (training provided if needed)
  • Ability to work in a production/manufacturing area on a regular basis
