DSV are recruiting for Warehouse Operators in Thrapston working weekday AM shifts.

The Warehouse Operative’s role is to facilitate and ensure that all inbound and outbound shipment is safely and accurately unloaded, received, checked, wrapped and put‑away and to execute all other tasks relating to warehouse operation in accordance with operational and health and safety procedures. The operative must be able to follow standard operating procedures and work in a methodical and tidy manner, possessing a comprehensive understanding of material/stock‑management techniques and inventory control methods and procedures.

Reporting to the Supervisor, the Warehouse Operative has overall accountability for daily warehousing operations which includes receiving, put‑away, inventory, picking, packing and delivery of stock items, operating manual handling equipment as required and minimising any losses and damages during these processes. To complete all tasks with a high degree of accuracy to ensure and maintain organisational standards, ensure compliance with safety, quality, health and environmental procedures, maintain a safe working environment within the warehouse and report any incidents or accidents immediately to the relevant manager.

Key Tasks
  • Handle goods in the vehicles/containers to ensure they are ready for replenishment.
  • Pick and pack products including unboxing, labelling, re‑boxing and stacking products on pallets.
  • Carry out all tasks connected with goods being returned, including unloading vehicles, sorting returns and putting stock away.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy while performing any operation.
  • Perform quality, audit and other checks on product or storage locations as required.
  • Maintain stock integrity by ensuring correct stock and system moves.
  • Perform all other duties as reasonably required that are consistent with both training and experience.

  • Understand and comply with all relevant company rules, agreements, policies, procedures and all relevant legislative requirements and codes of practice.
  • Ensure company business is treated in the strictest confidence and not disclosed to persons outside the company.
  • Act in a professional manner, maintain good working relationships and promote a good image of the company at all times.
  • Maintain and comply with all health, safety and environmental standards, be aware of the occupational health & safety management system, OHSAS18001 and adhere to the respective procedures.
  • Be aware that the company operates a quality assurance system ISO 9001:2008 and adhere to the respective procedures.
  • Ensure a good standard of housekeeping through observance of relevant company policies and secure work areas when unoccupied.
  • Where appropriate, challenge and determine reasons for the presence on site of any unauthorised person.
  • Attend any development training as required in compliance with the company’s commitment to the Investors in People standard.
Skills and Competencies
  • 2 GCSEs in maths and English.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse environment.
  • Ability to challenge health and safety failures.
  • Use own initiative to proactively suggest improvements in procedures.
  • Relevant workplace transport qualifications and previous experience of using a counter‑balance and reach truck (and other relevant vehicles such as shunter).
  • Understanding of basic health and safety principles.
  • Good ability to speak, read and write English and understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to plan and manage own time.
  • Own transport.
