Solutions Engineer – UK Public Sector
Apply to join our team as a Solutions Engineer (SE) at Cisco. The role focuses on technical sales for the UKI Public Sector, primarily supporting our Aerospace and Defence client base.
As a technical sales resource you will be the authority on Cisco’s solutions, guiding integration within clients’ workflows and tooling. You will establish rapport with technical staff and serve as a trusted adviser. Communication skills are essential.
The SE drives technical proof activities and expands opportunities. Responsibilities include:
- Establish and own strong technical relationships within the territories you support.
- Own achieving the ‘technical win’; moving opportunities from qualification to technical validation and into business validation.
- Develop technical activity plans to help the customer technically validate Cisco products and services and achieve meaningful value outcomes post‑sale.
- Partner with the Regional Sales Manager in in‑person and remote meetings with customers to determine needs and how Cisco can meet them.
- Support clients through the buying process by presenting, demonstrating, workshops and answering technical questions to validate Cisco as the right solution.
- Scope and run Proof of Concepts with clients to agreed success criteria and timelines.
- Work with partners on joint selling of Cisco solutions to enable partner selling.
- Identify, document and plan to mitigate technical risks to accounts to prevent customer churn.
- Ensure your knowledge and skills of Cisco solutions are up to date.
- Maintain timely updates on opportunity status in Salesforce.

Qualifications:
- Experience selling SaaS services or data solutions, or experience in a sales/commercial environment.
- Experience working with partners selling technical solutions.
- Outstanding communication skills across meetings, calls, emails, RFPs, and reports.
- Strong presentation and demonstration skills, using stories effectively.
- Active listening, good organisational, prioritisation and time‑management skills.
- Experience working in or for UK public sector organisations.
- Technical knowledge: Linux/Windows, basic network troubleshooting, IaaS platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), IT architecture concepts (High Availability, Disaster Recovery).
- Highly desirable: UK security clearance; experience in aerospace/defence; domain knowledge in security operations, observability, DevOps, IT operations, big data or log management; regex, Python, REST APIs, containers and orchestration.
