Suffolk Jobs Direct – Ipswich Borough Council Planning Department. Location: Grafton House, Ipswich, Suffolk IP1 2DE.

  • Hours: 29.6 hours per week
  • Contract: Permanent, required as soon as possible

About the Role

Planning Policy Team is looking for a motivated, ambitious Senior Planner to join our team and contribute to the Local Plan making journey under the new plan‑making system. You will prepare evidence base studies, monitor and support the preparation of the next Ipswich Local Plan due to commence in 2025‑2026, work collaboratively with neighbouring local authorities and Suffolk County Council, support other officers with report writing and project management, write guidance to expand planning policy, and help deliver allocations by working with developers and site owners.

About You

We’re looking for a motivated and proactive person with a relevant degree or postgraduate diploma or an NVQ Level 6 qualification in planning (or a relevant field). Ideally, you will have previous Local Plan making experience and a keen interest in housing. You should be a member of the RTPI, possess effective project management skills, genuine passion for improving the built environment, strong communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
