Job description
Plant Computing Lead (Sizewell C)

Location – Full time presence required: London, Leiston (Suffolk) or Ipswich (Suffolk)

Sizewell C is building the next generation of nuclear power in the UK. As we move through construction and towards commissioning and operations, we are creating the organisation that will run the plant safely and reliably for decades to come.

We are now looking for a Plant Computing Lead to play a central role in that journey.

This is a rare opportunity to shape how plant computing is set up, led and embedded in a brand new nuclear power station, from pre-operations through to live operations.

Contract: Permanent, full‑time.

Salary: ~£70k depending on experience.

Benefits include:

  • Annual Leave: 28 days per annum, increasing to 30 days after 5 years of service, plus bank holidays.
  • Bonus: Up to 5% annual bonus.
  • Pension Contributions: Defined Contribution Pension Scheme with up to 7.5% employee contribution and 15% employer contribution.
  • Flexible benefits: Additional allowance for a variety of benefits.

The role

Reporting to the Engineering Programme Manager within Pre‑Operations, you will lead the development of plant computing capability for Sizewell C. This includes building and leading the plant computing team, defining strategy, processes and standards, and ensuring systems are ready to support safe, efficient operation of the station.

You will work closely with Instrumentation and Control, Engineering, Operations, Maintenance and Commissioning teams, representing the needs of the future operator and bringing operational thinking into every stage of delivery.

This role sits at the heart of the project and will influence how plant computing maintenance, reliability and obsolescence management are planned and delivered for years to come.

What you will be doing

  • Building and leading the Plant Computing team through construction, commissioning and into operations.
  • Defining and delivering the plant computing strategy in an industrial control system environment.
  • Integrating with I&C systems, control rooms, safety‑related systems and simulators.
  • Working alongside commissioning teams to bring the plant safely into service.
  • Developing plant computing processes aligned to regulatory requirements and industry best practice.
  • Acting as owner and customer for digital and IT tools used by the operational station.
  • Developing maintenance schedules, managing budgets and controlling plant computing risks.
  • Learning from and aligning with proven approaches used at Hinkley Point C.
  • Representing the future operator in project forums and decision making.
  • Leading by example and modelling the highest standards of nuclear professionalism.

Who we are looking for

You will be a confident technical leader with a strong background in industrial control or computing systems, ideally within a regulated or high‑hazard environment.

You will bring:

  • An HNC or degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial control systems, including hardware, software, signal processing and logic diagrams.
  • Understanding of nuclear safety culture, regulatory compliance and quality standards.
  • Experience of commissioning and operational environments, ideally on a nuclear site.
  • Experience using asset management systems and data reporting tools.
  • A track record of leading, developing and motivating teams in complex, high‑pressure settings.
  • The confidence to engage with senior stakeholders and challenge constructively.

Why join Sizewell C

You will be part of a nationally significant project with long‑term impact. You will have the chance to shape how a nuclear power station operates from day one, supported by experienced engineers, strong governance and access to world‑class training and expertise.

If you are excited by the idea of building something that will last, leading people through change, and putting your mark on the future of plant computing at Sizewell C, we would love to hear from you.

Apply now and be part of shaping the future of clean energy in the UK.

Why Join Us?

For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home‑grown energy.

Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.

EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.

Nuclear power is the most reliable, low‑carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low‑carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.

We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skill areas.

It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.

Our industry has a mind‑boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.
