Job description
Overview

We are looking for a Personal Assistant for a seven-year-old boy. A woman would be preferred but Gran is willing to look at anyone who applies.

Location, Hours and Pay
  • Area: South Shields
  • Hours: 4 hours per week in each school holiday
  • Rates of pay: Age related national minimum wage, up to £12.90 per hour
  • Holidays: 5.6 weeks pro rata per annum
About the child

He is a seven-year-old boy with a diagnosis of 22Q Chromosome deletion (DiGeorge Syndrome) and other health conditions. He is nonverbal and communicates through hand leading, pointing, some Makaton and gestures. He is cheeky and loving. He currently lives with his maternal grandmother, which has been the pattern on and off since birth.

He is usually good with people other than Gran, but may push boundaries to get his own way and may require a firm “no” and redirection. There would be some personal care as Logan uses nappies and does not have reliable toilet awareness. He cannot walk well and uses a buggy; he may crawl on hands and knees or run on tiptoes. He has limited road sense and could be at risk of wandering if not supervised. He can be distracted by sensory input and does not like the word “no” or being denied something he wants.

He enjoys spending time at home with noisy toys, watching Mr Tumble, or going out to the park, garden or soft play. He likes Metro trains, car outings and going out for tea. There is a definite dislike of cucumber and messy play.

Role expectations

Gran is doing a great job, but a Personal Assistant would help greatly during the school holidays. The role may include some personal care and safety supervision, and supporting play and activities that are suitable for his needs.
