  • Essential – To be able to work as part of a team (school team and kitchen team).
  • No history of food‑related illness (ref page D‑7 Kitchen Manual – Pre‑employment questionnaire).
  • Desirable – Self‑motivated, happy disposition.
  • Knowledge of healthy food and nutrition.
  • To be sociable and treat people with respect.
  • Of clean and tidy appearance.
  • Good personal hygiene.
Qualifications and Relevant Training
  • Essential – Basic food hygiene.
  • Nutrition and diet qualification or completion of a level 2 course within 3 months of employment.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Car owner and prepared to use own car for work (business use on car insurance).
  • Desirable – Staff supervisor qualifications.
  • Craft cooking qualification.
  • Training in food production skills.
  • Training in food service skills.
  • Training in Health and Safety, e.g. moving and handling or first aid.
  • Training in selling skills.
Relevant Experience
  • Essential – Cooking in a commercial kitchen or a kitchen similar to a school kitchen.
