About The Role

Are you an experienced marine surveyor ready to take the lead on large-scale offshore projects? Do you enjoy managing teams, shaping strategy and improving the way marine surveys are delivered? Are you looking for a role where you can influence direction, innovate, and help grow a specialist global survey capability?

We’re looking for a Marine Survey Manager to join our Marine BioLabs & Surveys Division—a team known for delivering class‑leading benthic sampling, analysis, and offshore fieldwork. This senior role covers strategy, project oversight, team leadership, client engagement, and technical excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, expand and diversify survey services, working with marine scientists across benthic ecology, fisheries, hydrology, geomorphology and water quality.
  • Plan and ensure the safe delivery of large-scale offshore surveys.
  • Manage client relationships and shape business‑development opportunities.
  • Drive innovation across UK and international survey programmes.
  • Collaborate with Directors, Associate Directors and Principal Consultants to build a thriving, profitable, high‑performing team.
  • Support APEM Group’s global expansion, including international survey campaigns.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Biology or a related marine/environmental discipline.
  • At least 5 years of commercial offshore survey experience, including leading marine and benthic surveys.
  • Strong capability with safe deployment/recovery of survey equipment (grabs, cores, nets, water samplers, camera systems).
  • Proven experience leading and motivating technical teams.
  • Excellent project management, commercial awareness and client‑facing skills.
  • Experience preparing proposals, costings and delivering high‑quality reports.
  • A passion for developing marine survey capability and improving outcomes for staff, clients and the environment.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and a commitment to high technical standards.

  • Experience contributing to business cases or Capex planning.
  • Involvement in recruitment, skills planning or team growth.
  • Experience monitoring performance (project or personnel).
  • Input into cost‑benefit analysis or service optimisation.
  • A track record of mentoring or upskilling technical teams.
  • International project experience, including understanding of relevant legislation in other jurisdictions.
