Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust – London, Greater London
This post is for a 0.8 WTE locum consultant psychiatrist working in Barnet perinatal services. The post is available from 4 November 2024 and is for a fixed-term contract for 12 months. The post holder will be working alongside two substantive consultants and will receive supervision from one of the consultants. The post has come about as a result of the current post holder's planned maternity leave.
The post-holder will have clinical responsibility for patients referred to the service and will also work closely with multiple agencies within the integrated clinical service model. The SPMHS works closely with maternity services, adult community mental health teams, mental health liaison teams, crisis resolution teams/home treatment teams, adult psychological services, primary care, and other community services and organisations.
This is an exciting role where the post holder will provide psychiatric input to the integrated SPMHS. The post holder will be supported by the multidisciplinary team. Perinatal psychiatrists have expertise in the prevention, assessment, and management of mental disorders occurring or co-existing with pregnancy or the postpartum period, including the assessment and facilitation of the mother-infant relationship in the context of maternal mental illness. The post holder will clinically cover Barnet-based women booked to deliver at local maternity units such as Barnet General and Royal Free Hospitals respectively. The provision of preconception advice for women with severe mental illness from Barnet will also be provided. The service works in partnership with maternity services and has well-established joint multi-agency network meetings with social care and maternity services at the hospitals.
The post holder will be a GMC registered clinician responsible for patients allocated to them and will assess, manage, plan, and deliver care, including being professionally and legally accountable. All patients on the caseload fall under one of the two consultants. The post holder will work cohesively to support and advise MDT colleagues whilst also working autonomously and innovatively. They will supervise junior colleagues and have a commitment to collaborative working, actively supporting and liaising with other health and social care professionals and agencies.
North London Partners Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service (SPMHS) came about as a result of NHS England perinatal community service development funding, which secured investment to develop perinatal mental health services across five boroughs in the North Central London area in line with the NHS Five Year Forward View for Mental Health and the NHS Long Term Plan respectively. Since its inception in November 2017, the service has provided specialist perinatal mental health services across the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield, and Haringey.
