Personal Care Assistant – Spinal Injury Support

Location: South Shields, North East England

Hours: 24 hours per week – waking night shifts (7pm‑7am) on a 2‑week rota. Week 1: Thursday & Friday. Week 2: Saturday & Sunday.

Pay: £18.00 per hour

The Role

As a Personal Care Assistant you’ll be part of our client's dedicated support team, providing essential care in their home. You’ll be employed by HomeCareDirect but will focus solely on supporting this client.

The client has sustained a spinal injury and has no movement in his legs, weakened arms, and requires 24/7 support.

The duties and responsibilities include:

• Personal care, including catheter and bowel care (must have experience of this)
• Moving and handling, including assisted transfer with a hoist
• Assistance with administering medication
• Practical assistance with tasks around the home when required
• Assisting with physiotherapy, gym and rehabilitation techniques
• Comforting a canine companion (client owns a staffy dog to feed and walk)

Training & Support

We provide comprehensive, paid training (to CQC standards) before your start date, covering:

• Full induction
• Safeguarding Adults
• First Aid / Food Hygiene / Health & Safety
• Personal Care including Suppositories, Catheter and Bowel Care
• Moving and Handling with Hoist
• Medication Administering
• Physiotherapy
• Spinal Injury Awareness

All training must be completed prior to the start date and is paid at £18.00 per hour.
