Job description
Maintenance Technician – Estates

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde invites applications for a motivated and skilled Maintenance Technician (mechanical bias) to support the laundry unit at Hillington Industrial Estate in Glasgow.

Shift Pattern
  • Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 06:30‑17:00 (Dayshift) – 5 days
  • Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday 06:30‑17:00 (Dayshift) – 2 days
  • Week 3: Sunday‑Thursday 22:00‑07:00 (Nightshift) – 5 nights
Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair mechanical and electrical systems in the laundry facility, including new boiler technology, PLC controls and compressed air systems.
  • Assist with training and education of apprentices and adult trainees, ensuring they gain necessary experience and support managers in setting up training programmes.
  • Support ongoing maintenance of industrial laundry machinery and operations.
  • Work with shift and weekend teams to maintain continuous operation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Recognised and registered apprenticeship in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, equivalent to SVQ Level 4, Higher National Diploma or Modern Apprenticeship Level 4.
  • Practical core skills and proven track record within the trade.
  • Desirable: knowledge and experience of complex electrical/engineering systems in large healthcare premises, new boiler technology and controls, PLC controls, compressed air systems.
  • Experience with industrial laundry machinery and operations is an advantage.

  • Full‑time working hours will be reduced to 36 hours from 1 April 2026 (Agenda for Change).
