Lead Software Engineer (FileMaker)

This role is largely remote with the occasional travel to Southport.

We are seeking an experienced Lead Software Engineer (FileMaker) to provide technical leadership across our software engineering teams and play a key role in shaping scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions that support our business ambitions.

This is a hands‑on leadership role, combining people leadership, technical direction, and active development within an agile (Scrum) environment. You’ll guide multiple engineering squads, mentor engineers at all levels, and work closely with Principal Engineers and Architects to ensure alignment with wider technology strategy.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across FileMaker development teams, guiding architecture, design, and engineering best practice
• Remain hands‑on with development, contributing to complex features and system components
• Review and enforce coding, security, and performance standards
• Support Senior Software Engineers with solution design and technical documentation
• Collaborate closely with Principal Engineers and Architecture teams to ensure consistency and alignment
• Mentor, coach, and support engineers’ professional development
• Promote secure‑by‑design principles, data protection, and compliance with IT and financial controls
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce duplication across projects

Skills, Experience & Knowledge

• Proven experience FileMaker Developer (v18+)
• Strong experience with FileMaker APIs, relational database design, and system integrations (web APIs, WPE, XML, etc.)
• Solid understanding of system design, microservices, and cloud‑native architectures
• Strong experience working within agile (Scrum) environments
• Excellent communication skills, able to engage both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
• Experience using tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps
• Knowledge of the insurance industry (ideally personal lines) is preferred
• Strong understanding of secure coding and software security best practices (advantageous)
• Contributions to open‑source projects, technical blogs, or industry communities (advantageous)
