Key Responsibilities

Main Purpose of Job:
The main purpose of the job is to oversee all hard services, whether work is executed internally or via contractors. The role has full control over facilities and maintenance support services, ensuring compliance and that all scheduled maintenance is performed according to specifications and schedules. It supports the Facilities team with day-to-day tasks such as PM maintenance, laboratory maintenance, and contractor management. The role also involves supporting laboratory and office moves, deliveries, removals, stock levels, and daily helpdesk duties.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Organize maintenance of building systems and coordinate remedial works with the Facility Coordinator.
  • Manage Building Management System (BMS), reviewing alarm logs daily.
  • Lead all preventative maintenance tasks related to fire system obligations, including coordination.
  • Serve as the point of contact for contractor registration, ensuring RAMS are in place, and permits are issued and closed out.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues in research and CL3 labs (HVAC, freezers, fume hoods, BSCs).
  • Ensure completion of statutory tests and inspections in collaboration with the Facility Coordinator.
  • Maintain EH&S compliance and address concerns promptly.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues to maintain a safe, clean, and tidy workplace.
  • Assist the stores team with deliveries as needed.
  • Act as the Facilities point of contact in the absence of the Facilities Director.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3-5 years of related maintenance experience, preferably in biotech or pharma.
  • Knowledge of BMS and CMMS systems; AMICI knowledge is a plus.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.
  • Knowledge of fire safety legislation.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Minimum GCSE qualification or equivalent.
  • Experience in facilities/maintenance roles and basic DIY/engineering skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Health & Safety training.
  • Driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Permit to Work systems knowledge.

Additional Duties:

  • Complete daily tasks from the Facilities Helpdesk efficiently and escalate issues as needed.
  • Provide cover for team members during absences.
  • Support other activities as deemed appropriate.
