Job Title: Infrastructure Engineer (Defence)

Job Type: Permanent

Pay: £55,000 – £62,000 plus Extensive benefits

Location: Bristol (Hybrid – 3 to 4 days per week in office)

We are recruiting for a world‑leading research and technology organisation currently bridging the gap between academic innovation and industrial application. As a designated hub for Defence Innovation, they are focused on delivering “Sovereign Capability” rather than simply maintaining legacy equipment. This is a unique opportunity to engage with bleeding‑edge technology, where you will work on mission‑critical Randamp;D and digital engineering projects, collaborating with major defence partners in an agile environment that avoids the red tape often found in massive corporate structures.

Key Responsibilities
Implementation and Delivery
  • Working from established low‑level designs, implement secure, resilient, and supportable infrastructure components that align with architectural standards and project timelines.
  • Build and configure on‑premises infrastructure.
  • Deploy and integrate cloud‑based services including IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, virtual machines, storage, networking, and identity.
  • Undertake the planning, estimation, and scheduling of installation and decommissioning work.
Security and Compliance
  • Ensure systems are built in line with approved high‑level and low‑level designs.
  • Ensure that the highest levels of IT security are maintained to protect the integrity of all data.
  • Implement security best practices across Microsoft environments and align infrastructure builds with cyber security standards such as NCSC guidance, CIS benchmarks, or Microsoft Security Baselines.
Operations and Support
  • Utilise normal operating facilities, diagnostic tools, technical manuals, test scripts, and systems documentation to identify, diagnose, and report on system errors.
  • Support the project manager with test planning by designing and producing test scripts and cases using in-depth technical analysis.
  • Provide specialist advice, guidance, and assistance to colleagues on any aspect of installation planning and execution.
