Job description
About The Role

We are seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to join our Estates Maintenance team, supporting the safe, reliable and efficient operation of heating, ventilation and air‑conditioning systems across a complex multi‑use university estate.

This is a hands‑on technical role, working across academic buildings, student residences and specialist facilities, where system reliability, occupant comfort and statutory compliance are critical. The post holder will undertake planned and reactive maintenance, fault‑finding and minor works on a wide range of HVAC and mechanical services plant, working closely with supervisors, fellow trades and the Estates Helpdesk to ensure work is delivered safely, professionally and to a high standard.

The role requires a practical, methodical technician with strong diagnostic skills, able to work independently, manage competing priorities and communicate effectively with colleagues and customers in a live operational environment.

What you’ll be doing

You will be responsible for the day‑to‑day maintenance and repair of HVAC and mechanical building services systems, including heating and ventilation plant, air‑handling units, ductwork, pipework and associated controls. This will include responding to reactive faults, carrying out scheduled servicing and inspections, and supporting statutory and mandatory maintenance activities.

You will liaise with supervisors and the Estates Helpdesk to ensure works are correctly logged, prioritised and updated through the CAFM system, while also supporting and overseeing specialist contractors where required. The role also contributes to maintaining safe systems of work, effective isolation procedures and compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements.

You’ll work as part of a wider Estates maintenance team, providing technical input, supporting colleagues where needed, and contributing to out‑of‑hours cover through the on‑call rota.

About You

We’re looking for someone with proven experience in HVAC or mechanical building services maintenance, ideally gained in a large or complex estate. You’ll have a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 qualification, strong fault‑finding capability, and a good working knowledge of relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.

You’ll be organised, practical and safety‑focused, with the ability to manage your own workload, communicate clearly, and maintain accurate records. Experience of working in a customer‑facing estates environment, and confidence using CAFM systems, would be an advantage.

This post is offered on a 37.5 hour a week, full time, permanent contract working across Monday‑Friday.

The closing date for the position is Sunday 11 January 2026.
