This is an exciting opportunity to join our passionate and committed team, using your creativity and experience to provide support and care for mokopuna (children cared for) and their whānau.

Do you love the idea of working as part of a team whose work/mahi matters every day?

Do you want to see your experience and expertise make a difference for tamariki, rangatahi and the people who care for them?

Do you share our vision that every child’s mana be upheld, and that every moment in a child’s life should matter?

If your answer to those questions is yes, then let us tell you about who we are.

We are Key Assets New Zealand, an NGO working for the wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi. Our roots, and much of the work we continue to do today, is grounded in the provision of foster care. Over time our expertise and kaupapa has expanded to include whānau preservation, whānau restoration, youth work and specialist training for schools and other organisations.

Central to our ability to successfully support young people, mātua whāngai (foster carers) and whānau, is the comprehensive, trauma‑informed approach that guides the organisation’s mahi with every young person. This approach draws on combined expertise across social work, youth work, education, and therapeutic practice.

Social Worker/s (or other registered professional) for our Foster Care and Mokopuna Support Service

32 - 40 hours per week (negotiable)

Based in Christchurch

Competitive Salary + 4% KiwiSaver

We are looking for an experienced social worker/health professional to play a key role in our whānau preservation and foster care programme which aims to maintain mokopuna in their whānau or return them to whānau care.

Our service bridges the care needed for mokopuna when they are unable to live with whānau until such time as they can return or have a long‑term place to be. Maintaining and developing the skills of mātua whangai (foster carers) and whanau to meet the needs of those mokopuna is the heart of what we do.

The role itself is varied and includes such tasks as:

  • Working directly with mokopuna, caregivers, whanau and their community.
  • Training, assessing and reviewing carer competencies.
  • Assessment of mokopuna and whānau needs.
  • Collaborative planning and service co‑design.
  • Oversight and coordination of service delivery.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (or equivalent recognised by the Social Workers Registration Board – SWRB)
  • A passion for evidence‑based practice and utilising outcome measures
  • Experience working within a practice framework or parent coaching models
  • Ability to work autonomously while being a team player
  • Excellent time‑management and documentation skills
  • Understanding of the care system would be an advantage

Due to the nature of the role you need to be available and prepared to work occasional evenings/weekends as required, such as on‑call phone cover.

Applications should include a cover letter and CV, either hit the 'Apply for this Role' button or email to HR.NZ@keyassets.co.nz.
