Job summary

A respected health and social services organization in the United Kingdom is seeking a Whānau Engagement Navigator. Non-profit - Social Services | Fixed Term, Full Time – until 30 September 2026

Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga (TToH) is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Whānau Engagement Navigator to join our Ākonga Tautoko Service within our Mana Ake Team.

About Us

TToH is a respected and successful health and social services provider supporting whānau across Heretaunga, Hawke’s Bay and throughout the East Coast. For over 40 years, our health, social, education, and community development teams have worked alongside whānau to support their wellbeing and aspirations.

About the Role

This role provides intensive, targeted support to ākonga Māori and their whānau who require extra help to improve school attendance and engagement.

You will work with ākonga Tamariki/Rangatahi, including Māori and Pasifika rangatahi, developing strong relationships with whānau, schools, and community supports across Heretaunga and Tamatea.

The key focus of the role is to:

  • Strengthen the connection between home and school for ākonga Māori
  • Support whānau to identify and overcome barriers to consistent school attendance
  • Improve educational outcomes through increased engagement and whānau-led solutions
  • Act as a resource for 15 partner schools (4 secondary, 11 primary/intermediate)
  • Provide support to ākonga Māori throughout the duration of the project

This full-time fixed-term position (40 hours, Monday–Friday, 8.30am–5pm) reports to the Team Manager – Mana Ake and works collaboratively across all Tamariki and Rangatahi Support services.

About You

We are looking for a passionate, energetic, and reliable person who is committed to making a positive difference for rangatahi and their whānau.

To be successful, you will have:

  • Experience supporting rangatahi/tamariki and offering practical, useful advice to whānau
  • Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, te ao Māori and kaupapa Māori practices
  • Strong relationships or connections across local schools, whānau, and marae
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with rangatahi, whānau, school staff, and agencies
  • Experience writing case notes, completing reports, and managing a caseload
  • Confidence with IT systems, remote working, and maintaining high-quality electronic records
  • A high level of integrity, honest, reliable, and trustworthy
