Overview

Supporting schools to deliver outstanding science education.

Responsibilities
  • Supports science departments across multiple schools, helping teachers and leaders improve the quality of science education.
  • Delivers coaching, curriculum development, and lesson support, including teaching students directly when needed.
  • Works across a wide region, balancing school visits, training, planning, and remote work.
Qualifications
  • GCSE English and maths at grade C or above (grade 5 now).
  • A levels in science or related subject, and a subject-specific degree.
  • PGCE and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Role context

The role supports heads of department and teachers to make sure science education in each school is as strong as it can be. Typical activities include learning walks, coaching teachers, teaching lessons (including being observed), and developing curriculum for sustained impact.

Working pattern

Typical working hours are eight to five during term time. Travel is common, so travel times may extend outside standard hours. Some planning, meetings, or teaching may occur in the evenings or at weekends. Fridays are often used for online meetings when working from home.
