LEAD DRILLER - CABLE PERCUSSION (CP)

Location: Leeds

Salary: Competitive

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday

What you’ll do

At Ground Control Geotechnical Solutions (GCES), we deliver innovative, sustainable, and high-quality geotechnical solutions that support major infrastructure projects. We’re looking for an experienced Lead Cable Percussion Drilling Operative to lead safe, efficient, and high-quality CP drilling operations on site.

  • Operate and maintain Cable Percussion (CP) drilling rigs
  • Lead and supervise on-site CP drilling teams
  • Prepare sites, set up plant and equipment, and carry out drilling works
  • Complete open-hole drilling, core drilling, and rock coring
  • Ensure accurate sampling, logging, and daily records
  • Act as the on-site representative, providing progress updates to management

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver CP drilling works safely, on time, and to specification
  • Allocate daily tasks and mentor less experienced operatives
  • Ensure compliance with HSE, CDM, and RAMS requirements
  • Lead toolbox talks and site safety briefings
  • Carry out equipment checks, routine maintenance, and defect reporting
  • Maintain high standards of quality, professionalism, and client satisfaction
What we’re looking for

Essential

  • Proven experience in Cable Percussion (CP) drilling and ground investigations
  • Strong knowledge of open-hole, core, and rock coring techniques
  • Experience supervising site teams
  • Good understanding of HSE regulations and site safety requirements
  • Experience working on infrastructure, utilities, or construction projects
