Job summary

A vibrant outdoor arts organisation is seeking a passionate trustee to join its board. Job Summary

We're looking for a passionate new trustee to join our vibrant outdoor arts organisation and theatre company. The Living Theatre Whitwell are looking to recruit a new trustee to join our existing board in aiding the governance and growth of The Living Theatre.

Job Description

The Living Theatre Whitwell is an outdoor arts organisation based just outside of Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Born out of the pandemic with a mission to create artistic experiences that combine the outdoors and arts, increase the wellbeing of our community and provide support for those wishing to enter the creative industries. Sustainable practices and mentorship are woven into all of our projects, along with a bigger goal to cultivate new sustainable practices within the outdoor theatre industry. We are run by a core creative team and a large group of wonderful local volunteers.

Our trustees support us to ensure that we have a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our charitable objectives, give guidance, mentorship and support to our artistic directors and are ambassadors for TLTW within our community and the industry. The ideal candidate will be passionate about the arts and our mission, and committed to pushing the organisation forward within the industry and our community.

Job Requirements

Our current board of trustees is made up of mental health and ex-theatre professionals and while we are looking specifically to fill this role with someone of a theatrical or funding background we are happy to hear from any candidate who thinks they can bring relevant expertise to help boost our organisation. We particularly encourage applicants' backgrounds currently underrepresented in the industry.

Job Responsibilities
  • Trustees meet at least once per quarter to discuss upcoming projects, fundraising initiatives and support the artistic directors in their personal and professional development within the organisation
  • Supporting the artistic team in legal and administrative duties
  • Promote the organisation at local events and within the arts community
  • Keep an active engagement in the projects of the organisation
  • Approve operational strategies and policies, and monitor and evaluate their implementation.
  • Oversee LT's financial plans and budgets and monitor and evaluate progress.
  • Ensure the effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
  • Ensure that key risks are being identified, monitored and controlled effectively.
  • Review and approve LT's financial statements.
  • Keep abreast of changes in LT's own governance. Attend Board meetings adequately prepared to contribute to discussions.
