Following a detailed review of the Trust’s Clinical Coding Service, an exciting opportunity has arisen within the department for full time, ACC qualified coder with enthusiasm and motivation to join our extremely busy Clinical Coding Department. The post holder will have responsibility for the clinical coding of all acute specialties, by abstracting clinical data from the patients records and translating it into diagnostic (ICD10) and procedure (OPCS) coding classifications.
Main duties of the job

The Clinical Coding Team performs an extremely important role in the information and financial flows of the Trust and is a source of healthcare data for the Department of Health (DOH) and World Health Organisation (WHO).

As an Accredited Clinical Coder, you will have experience of coding a variety of specialties that occur within an acute NHS organisation. You will have a flexible and adaptable approach to work and strive to create accurate clinically coded data, embracing the national clinical coding standards, rules, and conventions, to ensure the Trust data is sufficiently robust.

We would be delighted to receive applications from ACC qualified Clinical Coders who live outside the geographical area who are interested in remote working.

We are a centralised coding team with coding offices on two sites. Coders can also choose to work on site full time or have the option to adopt a hybrid working approach, working part on site and part remotely.

Our source documentation for coding is a mix of paper and electronic documents, emphasising moving towards a fully electronic patient record.

Qualifications
  • Good general education to GCSE level with Maths and English
  • Relevant NVQ3 / A levels or equivalent. To have obtained a Pass in the National Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC)
  • Have attended an NHS Classifications Service (NHSCS) foundation course
  • Be able to provide evidence of attendance at a nationally approved Refresher Training Course within the last three years of employment.
  • Be able to provide evidence of attendance on nationally approved Specialty Workshops
  • Ongoing relevant experience and development to degree equivalent level.
  • Degree in Sciences/Biology
Experience
  • Have extensive experience working as a clinical coder following foundation training.
  • Experience of working within the NHS or other relevant Healthcare service
  • Experience of using encoding/Hospital Systems

  • Able to provide evidence of a maintained standard of 90% accuracy across all specialties.
