How you'll make a difference

As a Care Home Assistant, you will be a valued member of the team, ensuring vulnerable residents living in our care home are comfortable and cared for. In this rewarding job, you will help residents keep their independence whilst providing physical, social and emotional support.

Alexandra Way Care Home is owned and run by South Gloucestershire Council which can accommodate up to 43 residents. It provides accommodation and personal care for older people assessed as in need of residential care.

What you will be doing
  • You will support and assist the residents in their personal care needs, in accordance with their individual support plans and support those experiencing a change in their care requirements. This may involve helping them at meal times or administering/assisting them with taking their medication.
  • Using your experience, skills and knowledge you will help people to maintain and develop their personal skills and will use your caring and creative personality to deliver a variety of activity programmes to promote independence.
  • It will be your responsibility to maintain records including daily record and support plans. If there are any changes to these plans, you will support the individual to enable them to put them into practice.
What we need from you
  • We require you to hold a QCF level 2/3 or be committed to obtain a relevant one if not already achieved.
  • You must be able to demonstrate knowledge of professional care groups and external contacts e.g. GPs, nursing services, and emergency services.
  • Due to the nature of this role, you will have the ability to be empathetic and resilient so you can manage challenging behaviour.
  • It is key you have demonstrable knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice.
  • You will have knowledge of specialist equipment and an awareness of manual handling techniques.
What you need to know
  • We welcome applications for part-time or full-time hours for this post, please specify your preference on your application.
  • Your shift pattern could be either 7am - 2/3pm or 2/3pm - 9/10pm.
  • Your uniform and equipment will be provided.
  • Please note that due to the nature of this role, it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained.
  • Alexandra Care Home is a residential care home based in South Gloucestershire, BS35 1LA.

Interviews anticipated week beginning the 5th January 2026.
