We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Technical Consulting to lead our technical consulting practice. This key role will drive the delivery of pre‑sales consultancy, develop innovative prototypes, and oversee paid geospatial consultancy engagements. You will lead a talented team of consultants and technical specialists, ensuring we deliver exceptional value to our clients while supporting our key commercial objectives.

Idox Geospatial has ambitious targets and this role will play an important part in unlocking new customer value to support continued revenue and margin growth in 2026 and beyond.

Part of Idox plc, Idox Geospatial is a UK leader in location insight. From data to consultancy, or through our enterprise‑class software platforms, we help deliver a clear understanding of the risks and opportunities that organisations face every day. By bringing together a range of specialist geospatial companies and brands, we offer the most comprehensive location data services available – providing insight at scale and in detail.

We serve both government and private sector clients, delivering process‑driven software for planning & building control, environmental health, licensing procedures, and complex capital projects. Our commitment to environmental performance and building diverse, inclusive teams drives our mission to enable organisations to achieve more through location insight.

Key responsibilities
Strategic Leadership

  • Develop commercial propositions that leverage our comprehensive portfolio of data, software, and technical expertise to deliver new customer value
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key clients across government and private sectors
  • Collaborate with product teams to influence roadmap based on client needs and market opportunities
  • Regularly report on progress, blockers and new opportunities as part of the Geospatial leadership team.
Team Management & Development
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of technical consultants and geospatial specialists
  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and technical excellence
  • Set OKR‑style objectives that ensure team performance
  • Conduct regular 121 and performance reviews to ensure consistent delivery
  • Ensure knowledge sharing and best practices across the team
  • Lead complex pre‑sales engagements, translating client requirements into compelling solutions
  • Collaborate with sales teams to qualify opportunities and develop winning proposals
  • Develop and deliver technical demonstrations, proof‑of‑concepts, and prototypes (including the development of detailed technical designs, wireframes and specifications)
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to prospective clients on geospatial strategy and implementation
  • Support RFP/tender responses with technical expertise and solution architecture
Consultancy Delivery
  • Oversee the delivery of paid consultancy projects, ensuring quality, timeline, and budget adherence
  • Ensure that customer requirements are clearly captured and that the expected benefits are successfully delivered.
  • Act as technical escalation point for complex client challenges
  • Define methodologies and frameworks for consistent, high‑quality delivery
  • Ensure projects leverage Idox Geospatial's full portfolio of software and data services
  • Work closely with the Project Management team to document and report resource allocation and manage capacity planning across concurrent engagements
Technical Innovation
  • Drive innovation through the development of prototypes and proof‑of‑concepts
  • Stay current with industry trends in geospatial tools and platforms and track and test emerging technologies that may impact or benefit our business
  • Identify opportunities for new service offerings based on emerging market needs
  • Contribute to thought leadership through white papers, presentations, and industry events
  • Champion the use of emerging technologies (where appropriate) and ensure adoption of latest best practice in software engineering and data management
  • Collaborate with the development, data, research and AI teams to test and validate new ways to accelerate our technical delivery.
To be successful, you should bring:
