Job description
Senior Clerk of Works

We’re excited to introduce a brand-new Senior Clerk of Works role within our well‑established and highly respected Quality, Safety, Health and Environment (QSHE) team. This is more than just a site‑based role—it’s a unique opportunity to spearhead a growing service, acting as the lead point of contact for Clerk of Works instructions across our expanding portfolio.

Role Overview

As the driving force behind this new offering, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring our construction projects meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and safety. You’ll provide impartial, expert inspections and reporting, ensuring works are delivered in line with specifications, regulations, and best practice.

Working closely with Project Managers, Building Surveyors, and Fire Engineers/Safety Consultants, you’ll help shape a joined‑up approach to risk mitigation and quality assurance across Hollis projects. If you’re looking to take ownership, build something new, and make a lasting impact, this is your chance to lead from the front.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular site inspections to monitor construction quality, workmanship, and adherence to specifications.
  • Identify and report defects, non‑compliance, and health & safety risks, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Liaise with contractors, consultants and internal teams to ensure CDM and H&S obligations are met.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Building Surveyors and Project Managers to ensure design intent is realised on site.
  • Provide technical input during pre‑construction and construction phases.
  • Assist in the development of internal quality assurance protocols and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in a Clerk of Works or site inspection role, ideally within a consultancy environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations.
  • Demonstrable experience in fabric inspection and fire safety compliance, including familiarity with passive fire protection systems and fire stopping.
  • Working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and impartially.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. ICWCI membership, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, HNC/HND in Construction or similar).
Collaborations

Interdisciplinary collaboration with:

  • Building Surveying – Ensuring survey recommendations are implemented correctly during refurbishment or remedial works.
  • Project Management – Supporting PMs with on‑site verification and progress reporting.
  • Fire Safety – Identifying fire safety risks and ensuring compliance with fire strategy during construction.
  • Environmental and M&E – Flagging sustainability or services‑related issues that may impact performance or compliance.
  • Health and Safety – Flagging safety concerns for attention by the principal contractor.
