GE Aerospace’s FLIGHT DECK
Job description
Job Description Summary

The Senior Manufacturing Engineering Strategy Leader - Electrical Power plays a pivotal role in driving excellence in manufacturing processes at GE Aerospace. This position is all about leadership, innovation, and collaboration. As a Consulting Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll lead efforts to optimise manufacturing operations, ensuring the highest standards of product quality while championing continuous improvement initiatives.

You’ll work closely with cross‑functional teams, sharing your expertise and mentoring engineers to foster growth and development. By implementing lean manufacturing principles and leveraging GE Aerospace’s proprietary FLIGHT DECK operating system, you’ll help enhance efficiency, improve quality, and reduce costs—directly contributing to the company’s mission of delivering world‑class aerospace solutions.

To excel in this role, you’ll need a strong background in manufacturing engineering, ideally electrical power systems. Key skills include expertise in lean manufacturing methodologies, problem‑solving, and process optimisation. Experience in mentoring and leading teams is essential, as is the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse functions. A deep understanding of electrical power systems and their manufacturing requirements would be highly beneficial, along with a commitment to safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC)—the pillars of GE Aerospace’s operations.

This position is part of GE Aerospace Consulting Manufacturing Engineering (CME) Office, a specialised group that focuses on driving technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement in manufacturing engineering processes. The CME Office is composed of highly experienced engineers who hold the prestigious Consulting Engineer Controlled Title Holder status, which is a recognition of their deep technical expertise, leadership, and contributions to the company.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a recognised technical expert and process owner in manufacturing and process engineering, ensuring producibility (Design for Manufacturing) considerations are integrated into business processes.
  • Provide expert guidance to program management, design, and supply chain teams.
  • Stay informed of advancements in your area of expertise, ensuring the organisation remains at the forefront of industry developments.
  • Co‑chair and provide technical leadership in design/producibility reviews, manufacturing reviews, task forces, industrial committees, problem‑solving initiatives, and design boards as required.
  • Collaborate with Chief Engineers and Chief Technologists in your area of expertise to align design and manufacturing engineering processes and initiatives.
  • Offer technical consultation to your assigned organisation and other internal and external engineering and manufacturing teams.
  • Identify and recommend improvements in technical knowledge and training needs, including developing strategies for key manufacturing disciplines.
  • Lead efforts to integrate new technologies seamlessly into production processes, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Work with multi‑year product and technology strategy teams to ensure manufacturing and process capabilities are in place to support future strategies. Take ownership of the Multigenerational Manufacturing Plan (MGPP).
  • Provide technical support to production processes at manufacturing sites, focusing on yield, cost, quality, and delivery improvements.
  • Facilitate connectivity between site Manufacturing Engineering teams and Subject Matter Experts across GE Aerospace to drive problem‑solving, mentorship, and knowledge sharing through collaboration platforms and events.
  • Guide the implementation of new equipment, including writing specifications, cost justification, vendor selection, installation planning, start‑up, prove‑out, and benefits realisation.
  • Develop plans and secure funding for the maturation of new manufacturing technologies and processes.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for New Product Introduction (NPI) producibility and production readiness reviews.
  • Engage with Bids & Proposals, Advanced Technology Office (ATO), NPI design, and other upstream teams to offer Design for Manufacturing (DFM) insights and share manufacturing lessons learned. Support engineering teams in enhancing DFM tools and capabilities.
  • Attend industry trade shows and events to identify emerging technologies and share findings with technical teams in supply chain and engineering.
  • Support the growth and development of manufacturing engineering roles at both site and global levels through mentorship, training, and collaborative project work.

Requirements:

  • Degree in a STEM related subject, and/or equivalent aerospace manufacturing experience.
  • Significant experience in a technical manufacturing capacity, with a strong background in a Manufacturing Engineering role within an advanced technology business.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Recognised as an authority in Power Generation & Conversion manufacturing engineering disciplines.
  • Strong ability to lead teams, mentor engineers, and collaborate across all levels of the organisation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Proven track record of leading teams through complex problem‑solving and root cause investigations.
  • Proficiency in lean methodologies, including GE Aerospace’s FLIGHT DECK operating system.
