Job description

Job Title: Assessment Specialist Compliance & Relations Assistant Manager

Salary: £29,700 – £38,550

Location: Coventry/Cambridge/Hybrid (at least 2 days per week in the office)

Contract: Permanent, Full time (35 hours per week)

Join our Assessment Specialist Management team as an Assistant Manager and play a pivotal role in safeguarding compliance and quality across assessment processes. This is an exciting opportunity for aspiring leaders to influence high-stakes decisions, lead a dynamic team, and drive continuous improvement. Acting as deputy to the Compliance & Relations Manager, you'll manage complex cases and shape best practices that uphold integrity and excellence.

We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world-leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assessment Specialist Compliance & Relations Assistant Manager to join our Assessment Specialist Management team. This role is ideal for aspiring leaders looking to make a significant impact within Assessment Management and contribute to escalated, high-stakes decisions. You will support the Compliance & Relations Manager in upholding the integrity, compliance, and quality of assessment processes, managing complex cases related to conduct, performance concerns, and non-compliance. The Assistant Manager acts as a deputy, enabling strategic focus while leading a sub-team to deliver high standards of service and compliance from our Assessors.

Rarely are two days the same, but, broadly, your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead, organise, and motivate a team of Assessment Specialist Compliance & Relations Administrators, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture.
  • Oversee the allocation, investigation, and resolution of escalated Assessment Specialist cases, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Own decisions on complex or sensitive cases, escalating to the Compliance & Relations Manager when necessary.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of compliance processes, team workflows, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and development of team members, and deliver training on best practices.
  • Monitor and manage risks, ensuring business continuity and assessment integrity.
  • Collaborate with project groups to shape policies and standard terms for assessment specialists to meet legal requirements.
  • Prepare regular reports and communicate complex issues to internal and external stakeholders.

This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and face-to-face at their dedicated location. Aside from our hybrid principles, other flexible working requests will be considered from the first day of employment, including other work arrangements should you require adjustments due to a disability or long-term health condition

About you

To be successful in the role, you will be a confident and experienced team leader and a collaborative and conscientious team player, with an eye for detail and excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.

You also ideally have:

  • Advanced understanding of regulatory compliance, assessment processes, and employment law.
  • Experience supervising and investigating within a regulated or legal environment.
  • Strong team leadership skills, able to motivate and develop team members while fostering a positive culture.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and the ability to quickly learn new digital systems.
  • Ability to manage confidential and complex matters with tact and sensitivity.
  • Self-motivated, innovative, and able to deliver high standards of customer service.
  • Experience in conducting investigations and building productive stakeholder relationships.
  • Knowledge of assessment models and the competencies required for assessment specialists is preferable.

If you would like to know more about this opportunity and what will make you successful, please see the full job description attached to the bottom of this vacancy on our careers site.
