A leading underwater industry organization in the UK seeks a Strategic Project Development Manager to develop strategic relationships and projects within the underwater sectors, particularly focusing on floating technologies. The role involves program leadership, membership recruitment, and enhancing stakeholder relations. Candidates should have relevant experience and a background in business or technical disciplines. The position offers competitive employment terms.
The Strategic Project Development Manager will help to develop strategic relationships and projects with existing and potential service users (members and partners) from across the underwater industry sectors, including large corporations, SMEs, OEMs, start‑up companies, trade, industry and academic partners. A significant focus of this role will be in relation to floating technologies including mooring, anchoring, connection systems design, installation and testing.
The GUH programmes and forums exist to align with GUH strategic focus areas. These forums will drive the current and future activity and direction of industry engagement and membership value. They will also influence and drive the GUH activity agenda in areas such as events, publications and external communication across a wide range of stakeholders.
The role will take an active leading role in multiple GUH strategic programmes, including participant and member recruitment, objective setting and alignment with genuine industry demand. Programmes will be defined by a white paper, steering and sub‑group structure and measured deliverables, including but not limited to industry guidance papers, investment signposting, sector gap analysis and demonstrable sector transition. The role will be key in the leadership, administrative management and alignment of GUH programmes associated with floating technologies such as mooring, anchoring and connection systems and testing. Strategic programmes guide many of GUH’s nationally significant conferences, events and external communications, so the role will be pivotal in setting the direction and focus of these outputs.
Aligned to the wider strategic programmes, the role will be responsible for securing GUH membership and enhanced participation. GUH’s mandate to convene industry is supported by appropriate membership, so the post holder will support this objective by recruiting organisations with alignment to programme areas.
Additional business development activities include pursuing proactive revenue generation opportunities through enhanced member activity such as programme/forum participation, event sponsorship or stand agreement, workshop facilitation, bespoke market intelligence or other value‑adding activities provided by GUH. While active across the GUH full membership, this role will focus on members which align with programme management focus.
Line management for the role sits directly under the Strategy and Policy Director with responsibility for the delivery of all strategic programmes. Reporting lines and functional alignment also sit under the Regional Director with responsibility for membership development activities.
The role will be crucial to identifying, developing and implementing the key membership targets for the GUH, while supporting development of national and international relationships where appropriate. As such the role holder will work closely with the Regional Director and GUH senior management team (SMT) to develop and implement aligned membership targets to support the GUH growth plans.
In broad terms, the role can be seen as a balance between programme leadership and business development, with a 2:3 ratio of time spent on each activity on average.
The role holder will be computer literate, confident in using Microsoft Office and have experience in utilising and maintaining customer relationship management systems.
All our activities are underpinned with a demonstrable focus on our own personal health and safety and the health and safety of our colleagues and stakeholders. We always demonstrate safety leadership in our words and actions.
