As a Trust we have aproven track record insupportingdoctors to completetheirCESRand thengoon to takea Consultant post with the Trust, so this could be your ideal next step.

This is a fixed term appointment for 12 months from the 1 st March 2026, based predominantly at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post comprises10programmedactivities(PAs),whichcouldbemodified foracandidatepreferringto work10 PAs or less than full time.

This is an excellent opportunity within the Stroke department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, based at the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, which enjoys a unique geographical location close to London and Cambridge. The Trust also enjoys a reputation for our commitment to the highest standards of care and for our friendly and supportive approach.

Main duties of the job

The role of the appointee will be to support the ongoing development in the department of Stroke and to deliver Stroke services at East and North Herts NHS Trust at the Lister Hospital Stevenage.

Main responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of high-quality patient centered care
  • Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service
  • Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service
  • Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity
  • Active participation in continuing medical education.

Qualifications / Training
  • Full GMC registration with a Licence to Practice
  • FRCA or qualification of an equivalent level
Previous Experience
  • Shall have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term specialty trainee in a relevant specialty; or Shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
  • Demonstrate an interest in, commitment to and have broad experience in Stroke Medicine.
  • Ability to offer and be accountable for full and independent expert diagnostic opinion
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
  • Understanding of core research principles, methodology and ethics
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice and clinical quality improvement initiatives
Skills
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors.
  • Evidence engagement with appraisal and revalidation
  • Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making
Knowledge
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic principles of audit, evidence-based practice, and clinical quality improvement initiatives
  • Comprehensive knowledge and insight regarding all the domains within the GMC standards of Good Medical Practice
