Job description

We have a great opportunity for you to lead our communications, Signalling and Electrical team within the Infrastructure Works Delivery department. Join Nexus as a Works Manager and play a key role in providing guidance and expertise on our various railway electrical systems. Enjoy the variety of this role whilst focusing on the safe and successful delivery of diverse capital funded projects. These projects are typically planned construction and engineering rail infrastructure asset renewals, though you may be called upon to assist in reactive circumstances. If you are passionate about ensuring high quality work is delivered on time and to budget, but with safety as the top priority this role is for you.

Typical Day

The role requires management of diverse technical expertise requiring effective communication, planning, problem‑solving and competency management. You will be involved in various day‑to‑day work activities:

  • Review of schedules and priorities
  • Team briefings
  • Site inspections
  • Coordination with stakeholders
  • Problem‑solving
  • Documentation and planning
  • Supervision of installations
  • Budget and resource management
  • Compliance checks
  • Progress reviews/Strategic planning
About you
  • You will have an HNC or higher qualification in engineering, management or health and safety, have excellent planning and organisation skills and the ability to prioritise workload with a high level of attention to detail.
  • You will have proven experience in leading and managing a team with excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • You will have a strong understanding of health and safety, quality, environmental and technical standards and you will have the ability to work autonomously and show initiative in decision‑making and problem solving.

Our Team

You will lead a team of Supervisors, technicians and engineers in delivering essential capital renewals of Nexus critical systems including SCADA, Signalling works, IT systems, HV/LV power supplies/controls, station lighting and power supply renewals.

Job Details and Benefits
  • This is typically a Monday to Friday job with occasional out of hours requirements as you will manage shift workers.
  • You’ll work a 36‑hour week
  • You will be part of an on‑call roster and will be paid an allowance for on‑call
  • You'll have the option to work a minimum of 60% of your working week in the office and the rest at home
  • You’ll be part of a generous pension scheme
