Job Purpose
Working on shifts, reporting to the Site Services Manager, this role is part of a team responsible for proactively managing Asset care to ensure that equipment performance is maximised/optimised. The role contributes to planning and executing all Asset Care activity on shift, including scheduled maintenance, breakdown response, RCA, and correction action. It supports the development of Autonomous Maintenance within operations as part of the wider engineering team, while adhering to Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and site policies.

Key Responsibilities
- Safety, Quality, Hygiene
- Undertake duties responsibly, giving due consideration to Safety, Environmental & Quality procedures, part of the Integrated Management System.
- Ensure work conforms to legislative requirements.
- Promote a culture of safe behaviour and contractor health and safety within the production and engineering areas.
- Reduce accidents, incidents and near misses by fostering behavioural awareness.
- Maintain product Food Safety, Legality, Integrity, Authenticity and Quality standards by adhering to all associated policies and procedures.
- Provide proactive, fast and effective response to all breakdowns across the shift.
- Execute planned asset care activities as directed from the Asset Care team.
- Support development of efficient asset care programs to improve equipment reliability and availability, standardising the approach across the site.
- Support the asset care strategy for the site.
- Drive transition from reactive to proactive maintenance with targets of 80% engineering work planned in advance, 20% of engineering time on C.I., and 75% known utilisation of engineers.
- Ensure maintenance cost and asset maintenance transparency.
- Actively utilise SAP PM and other systems to drive planning, control and improvement.
- Provide training and development of Autonomous maintenance on shift.
- Support Stores development programme by ensuring proper use of SAP system and associated technology for spares handling.
- Act on Site Services and Energy Management Support, responding to breakdowns and ensuring statutory compliance and performance standards.
- Support site services KPI framework for Water, Air, Gas, Electricity and Steam.
- Support the Site services team and wider engineering remit in understanding the Group Energy strategy framework to improve energy consumption and reduce costs.
- Ensure site electrical standards comply with current legislation and Princes group standards.
- When required, coordinate with the engineering Shift Lead to support the Electrical Duty holder in the compliance programme.
- Support capital projects through proactive involvement and training in new installations.
- Understand and apply continuous improvement practices, using tools such as 5S, GMP, RCA, and others to optimise plant productivity and efficiency.
- Challenge the status quo, promote a culture of best practice and continuous improvement focusing on waste elimination.
- Develop a culture of ownership for ongoing equipment development.
- Conduct self in accordance with site values and behaviours at all times.
- Support Engineering shift leadership as the first point of engineering support for the shift.
- Apply defined best practice in all engineering and maintenance matters and develop specialist technical skills to support factory KPIs.
- Learn and gain a thorough understanding of the production processes and new technologies to improve cost base and competitiveness.
- Work as part of a team to achieve performance objectives and drive site improvement targets within the Princes Manufacturing System framework.
- Communicate with shift peers and other shifts for effective transition and sharing of best practice.
- Help realise the Asset care philosophy and technological developments through new equipment and systems.
Experience Required
Role Requirements
- HNC or equivalent in an Electrical or multi-skilled engineering discipline, hands‑on experience with a demonstrable track record of success.
- PLC fault finding and programming – Siemens preferable.
- IEE/IET 17th Edition preferable.
- Track record of achieving results and managing change.
- Strong operational grounding in a complex, fast‑moving manufacturing environment.
- Familiar with World Class Manufacturing environments and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Good working knowledge of operating systems such as SAP, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Key experience of operating utility plants: effluent treatment, steam raising plant, compressors and fridge plant.
