Job description
Summary

Maintain a fully functional, operational and fit for purpose Emissions Laboratory Test facility, including calibration and maintenance of the facility. Provide technical support to enable Lotus to carry out vehicle emission testing to support product development and client requirements via the use of specialised Stars‑Vets software/programmes to meet all the relevant legal and quality requirements for test processes. The main focus is on customer markets in Europe, USA, China and Japan, but may include other RoW markets Lotus exports to, within the limits of our laboratory equipment.

To provide technical engineering support to the Propulsion Test Facilities and associated workshops/projects. Within the Propulsion Facilities we have engine dynamometers, EV test (loaded) and spin rigs, battery emulators, rig facilities, vehicle battery build, engine build and workshops.

What you’ll do
  • Provide technical support for equipment within the Powertrain Test Facility & workshop
  • Provide high and low‑voltage electrical system support (e.g. 3 phase 415 V)
  • Assist with operational requirements relating to vehicle‑based High Voltage systems
  • Provide High Voltage (up to 1000 V DC) support to fixed‑facility testing equipment
  • Provide technical support for the installation of equipment required for projects
  • Compile and collate data required for charges to projects/customers
  • Assist in fuel tanker deliveries
  • Maintain the fuel storage and delivery areas
  • Design, manufacture and implement systems to support testing within the Test Facilities
  • Represent the company at client or supplier premises
  • Maintain and calibrate Test Facilities to traceable standards
  • Liaise with the Test Facility support providers as required
  • Manage emissions test and development work, producing weekly test plans to outline the work with the flexibility to adjust the plan at very short notice to accommodate changes in test requirements in iterative testing programmes
  • Provide Lotus Manufacturing with the capability to carry out Conformity of Production (COP) Emission testing
  • Ensure Emissions Test facility legal compliance and authenticity of results for each project
  • Work closely with Type Approval to ensure test process requirements and any changes in legislation are met
  • Be responsible for compliance and calibration of the emissions test system to meet all legal system requirements under the Dangerous and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) and Pressure Systems and Transportable Gas Containers 2000 (PSSR) legislation
  • Monitor and implement calibration and maintenance requirements in accordance with legislation
What you’ll bring
Essential
  • Experience in managing teams, business processes, documentation, and similar
  • BTEC National or equivalent in mechanical, electrical or electronics engineering, City & Guilds Electrical qualification
  • Highly skilled in the use, repair and calibration of engine test control systems and ancillary equipment
  • Excellent hands‑on engineering skills (mechanical, electrical, electronics) and excellent fault diagnosis and analytical skills
  • Experience within an engine and vehicle test facility, experienced in development engine installations and testing
Desirable
  • 8th Edition Electrical qualification, Banksman trained, Wetstock analysis trained, Health and safety training
  • Knowledge of high and low‑voltage electrical systems; knowledge of pipework installations; awareness of Emission Lab
  • Good knowledge of computer/IT systems and software; knowledge of programming
  • Experienced in engine development build, dynamometer control system installations, or emissions/combustion analysis
