Job Summary
An exciting opportunity to join the East Midlands RRDN flexible workforce, the Agile Research Delivery Team. The team is known for providing high‑quality support to researchers and aims to expand its capabilities across public health, community, and social care settings. The role will be based across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Lincolnshire, with occasional work in the wider East Midlands, and you will be allocated a local base office.
Main duties of the job
The focus of the role is to lead the delivery and/or set up of UK National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Research Delivery Network (RDN) Portfolio studies across varied health and care settings. This requires flexible autonomous work across disciplines and the East Midlands regional RDN.
- Correct identification, recruitment, delivery, and follow‑up for research participants according to study protocols.
- Interpersonal and leadership skills to facilitate collaborative relationships and maximise engagement with a breadth of stakeholders.
- Line management and leadership of a dedicated research delivery staff team working autonomously across specialties and settings.
- Work closely with Study Support Service, Stakeholder and Engagement team, and report to the Agile Research Delivery Team Manager.
Job responsibilities
- Maintain links with other research staff and specialists across the research teams to share knowledge and provide mutual support.
- Attend national meetings in relation to research as appropriate.
- Coordinate professional updating and continuous development of staff within the Agile Research Delivery Team.
- Support the coordination of the team to ensure day‑to‑day management and appropriate staffing and skill mix at all times.
- Accurately perform and record participant assessments and physiological measurements required by the study protocol (e.g., venepuncture, blood pressure, urinalysis, weight and height).
- Appropriately document and report any serious adverse events and incidents according to regulatory requirements.
- Review research study protocols and scientific literature to identify safety aspects of research administration.
- Ensure relevant approvals are in place before commencing a study.
- Analyse, interpret, compare and present complex data to patient support groups and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintain accurate collection and storage of all research records and results using appropriate manual and computerised systems.
- Provide timely information and reports to reflect recruitment of patients, including entry to Local Project Management Systems (LPMS).
- Work directly with local IT departments or software providers to resolve problems with online data submission forms.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects and research sites, requiring flexibility and adjustment according to demand.
- Perform all aspects of study delivery including screening, recruitment, informed consent, delivering interventions, follow‑ups, data management, sample collection, and processing.
- Lead and manage a dedicated research delivery and support team, including supervision, mentorship, staff reviews, and performance management.
- Participate in the selection, interviewing, and induction of new staff for the Agile Research Delivery Team.
- Manage own workload, seeking guidance from peers when necessary.
Person Specification – Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in science or health‑related discipline, or in another field with experience of research trials or equivalent relevant experience/training, and either educated or working towards postgraduate degree level.
- CRPs should be on or working towards accredited registration with the AHCS.
- Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Desirable
- Completed or undertaking a course in management or leadership.
Knowledge and Experience – Essential
- Leadership and management experience in a health‑care setting.
- Knowledge of the governance and legislative framework for conducting clinical research studies, including UK Policy Framework for Health and Care Research and UK Clinical Trials Regulations.
- Knowledge of the clinical trial and health and care research life cycle, including experience of setting up and delivering clinical research studies.
- Experience of caring for patients/participants enrolled in research studies or a customer‑focused role.
- Knowledge and experience of data interpretation, verification, and reporting to local and national centres.
Skills and Abilities – Essential
- Good IT skills, especially with Web applications, MS Office, and/or Google Hub applications.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
