Job description
Purpose of the Role

The purpose of a SEN Teaching Assistant is to support pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities to access learning, develop independence, and achieve their full potential. Working under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO, the SEN Teaching Assistant provides tailored support to meet individual needs, promotes inclusion within the classroom, and supports pupils academic, social, emotional, and behavioural development. They help create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment where all pupils feel valued and supported.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored support to pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), including 1:1 and small-group support
  • Assist with personal care or medical needs where required, following school procedures
  • Ensure pupils’ safety and wellbeing at all times, following safeguarding procedures
  • Support pupils social, emotional, and behavioural development
  • Support positive communication with parents and carers
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and external professionals when required
  • Attend staff meetings, training and professional development sessions
