Overview

Responsibilities

PIC is recruiting for a Responsible Investing Manager – Climate Lead to join its PIC Capital department. In this role, you will apply knowledge and insights concerning the impact of climate change on investment portfolios and how this impacts our policyholders. Your accountabilities will include:

  • Conduct thorough analysis of physical and transition risks associated with investment opportunities, and use that analysis to support the investment teams in their due diligence. Provide a ‘climate opinion’ on new investment and contribute to Credit Committee / Investment Committee papers and discussions where appropriate
  • Review the climate metrics used to measure and monitor sustainability related risks and propose new metrics where appropriate
  • Collaborate with PIC’s Non Financial Reporting team to produce TCFD reports on an annual basis
  • Design and deliver climate scenario analysis approach across asset classes and sectors, working with relevant investment teams
  • Monitor and update progress against PIC’s transition plan, supporting investment teams to take action where appropriate to meet PIC’s climate targets
  • Partner with the Risk team to ensure PIC meets regulatory requirements on climate-related risk, particularly with reference to PRA Supervisory Statement 5/25
  • Consider the ongoing appropriateness of PIC’s climate targets, ensuring they remain appropriate to meet the expectations of’s stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the investment teams to develop and maintain house views on sustainability related risks and communicate these within the team - this includes keeping informed of industry trends and market developments. Ensure knowledge sharing across the Investment team
  • Respond to Trustee, Adviser or other external stakeholder climate related queries
  • Continue to explore and develop PIC’s approach to Nature-related risks
  • Contribute to external reporting requirements (TCFD, Sustainability Report, Annual Report, NZAOA, UNPRI), providing SME input where required
Experience
  • Relevant experience working in a corporate or consulting environment, the majority in financial services
  • Experience integrating the E of ESG into both public and private markets, in particular within fixed income
  • Specific experience within a role focused on Climate / Net Zero
  • Experience overseeing / conducting climate scenario analysis
  • Experience in driving forwards an investment portfolio decarbonisation strategy
  • Familiarity of and, if appropriate, involvement in industry-level climate initiatives
  • Experience engaging with external stakeholders and /or investee companies
Knowledge
  • Strong technical knowledge of sustainability related considerations, with a particular focus on climate risks, and their integration into the investment process
  • Strong understanding of climate-related physical and transition risks, techniques to analyse these risks, and their impact on investment portfolios across asset classes and sectors
  • Familiar with investments in the context of a life insurance company
  • Familiar with regulatory and industry best practices in sustainability, including reporting standards such as TCFD
Skills
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret complex data and translate insights into actionable recommendations as well as communicate it in simple terms to other stakeholders
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to take ownership, prioritise and time your work to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex climate and investment concepts to diverse audiences
  • Ability to take ownership of ‘Climate’ at PIC and work autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Proven ability to persuade and influence stakeholders at all levels both directly and indirectly
  • Ability to manage internal and external stakeholders effectively
