Job description

Brixton London… where David Bowie took his first steps, home of the famous Ritzy Cinema, the location of one of London’s best food markets, and for over 20 years has been home to Goddard Brixton on Brixton Hill. This established practice in South London is looking for an RVN to join the team and help increase its popularity even more!

About your new role!

Our new team member will thrive in GP branch life, building rapport with clients and building relationships with their beloved animals. You will be working alongside a fantastic trainee nurse and sole charge vet we are recruiting for.

This role can be from 32 hours per week, all in Brixton or 4 days in Brixton and 1 day elsewhere to bump you up to full-time hours if you wished. It includes a 1:3 branch Saturday and 1:10 Saturday rotation in Stone Lion Hospital, plus 1 bank holiday per year.

There are no on-call requirements for this position.

The Brixton practice is looking for an RVN to settle in and re-establish a close-knit client base, helping support your trainee nurse, and vet in day-to-day practice life. There will also be opportunity to perform nurse clinics to further enable your bond with your patients.

As a sole RVN, leadership training can also be provided, and you will work closely with your vet to ensure the practice is running as smoothly as possible (though we know there are "those days"!)

Brixton is fully supported by our 24-hour Stone Lion Hospital in Wimbledon for any complex cases that need to be referred, or for any of your patients who require OOH care.

You will also be fully supported by a fantastic regional manager, and regional head vet to assist in any clinical or operational support you may need.

As a branch RVN some of your duties will include:
  • Ensure the provision of a high quality and continually improving standard of nursing care.
  • Assist the veterinary surgeon in theatre and during consultations, as and when required.
  • Maintain comprehensive patient hospitalisation records.
  • Ensure a high standard of comfort and welfare for all pets in our care.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records of hospitalised patients.
  • Maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned, packed, sterilised and stored correctly when not in use.
  • Maintain adequate stocks of drugs, diets and consumables and place orders with our suppliers to required levels as necessary.
  • Assist with the induction of new staff and their subsequent training.
  • Provide reception duties, as required, ensuring a friendly and efficient handling of clients and their pets, in person, by email and over the telephone.
  • Support student nurses as a clinical supervisor

The practice is situated bang in the middle of Streatham Hill and Brixton stations, being a 20-minute walk or 5-minute cycle from the practice.

Now let’s get to the nitty gritty, here is what we offer you:

The salary for position is £34,000 to £37,000 FTE (full-time equivalent based on 40 hours per week) depending on experience and allowing room for growth within the role.

A little snippet of the benefits you will receive as a Goddard RVN:

  • CPD budget every year plus up to 2 days' paid CPD leave
