Northrop Grumman, Strategic Space Systems Division, is seeking a highly qualified Principal Electronics Engineer/Senior Principal Electronics Engineer - Ground Hardware Engineering to join the Ground Terminal Department at a field site in Harrogate, United Kingdom. This role may be filled at a level 3 or 4. A comprehensive overseas compensation package is offered with this position including relocation assistance.
Role requires a two (2) year commitment and the ability to successfully pass a psychological exam. Ability to work odd and/or extended hours covering a 24/7 period and periodic rotating 12-hour shifts.
Role Summary: The Principal Electronics Engineer / Senior Principal Electronics - Ground Hardware Engineering supports installation, integration, operation, maintenance, and repair of the ground terminal architecture at customer sites, ensuring critical mission system availability. You will apply your experience to provide time-critical observation, assessment, repair, and monitoring of complex communications systems and data links, and you will communicate recommendations to inform decisions on mission critical infrastructure and equipment.

Responsibilities
- Provide daily support and after-hours 24/7 response for technical operations, maintenance, and anomaly restoration for all systems assigned to the program
- Operate, maintain, repair/replace, and install equipment related to communication systems (antennas, servo systems, transmitters, receivers, mixers, switches, modems, upconverters/downconverters, amplifiers, networking/IT hardware, fiber optic transmitters/receivers, waveguides, coaxial/fiber cables, and peripherals)
- Develop and execute routine and non-routine maintenance plans and schedules for assigned systems
- Apply electronics principles to determine malfunctions and restore mission critical operations at system, sub-system, line replaceable unit, and board levels
- Document equipment failures and prepare/brief status reports to support concepts of operations (CONOPs) and improvements to operations and maintenance
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute system installations/upgrades, test activities, IT security patches, and anomaly restoration
- Provide training to operations and maintenance personnel for new installations, enhancements, and test events
- Provide COMSEC support, including operating and troubleshooting cryptographic equipment, handling keying material, and satisfying COMSEC training requirements
- Demonstrate professionalism with customers, suppliers, and colleagues at all times
- Position may require planned and emergency travel to CONUS and OCONUS sites
- Meet physical demands: work on elevated structures (~100 feet), climb stairs (~300 stairs/day), lift and carry up to 45 lbs, work in narrow/confined spaces and noisy data center environments
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications for a level 3:
- Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline plus 5 years of technical/engineering experience OR Master of Science in a STEM discipline plus 3 years OR 9 years of related experience in lieu of degree
- Strong technical communications skills and ability to work in a diverse team
- Experience with repair, configuration, troubleshooting and operations of network devices, computer systems (Windows and Unix/Linux), and communications equipment
- Well-versed with VMS, Windows, VxWorks, and/or Linux/UNIX
- Experience with Perl, Python, PowerShell or other scripting languages
- Willingness to complete a two-year overseas tour
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance & SCI Access
- Ability to pass CI Polygraph examination prior to start

- Experience with repair, configuration, troubleshooting and operations of network devices, computer systems (Windows and Unix/Linux), and communications equipment
- Well-versed with VMS, Windows, VxWorks, and/or Linux/UNIX
- Experience with Perl, Python, PowerShell or other scripting languages
- Willingness to complete a two-year overseas tour
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance & SCI Access
- Ability to pass CI Polygraph examination prior to start
Preferred Qualifications
- Active DoD Top Secret Clearance / SCI Access with a CI polygraph adjudicated within the last five years
- Certifications such as Network+, Security+, or DoD Directive 8570 IAT Level 1 or higher
- Experience supporting DoD/Intelligence Community operations, maintenance, or IT of digital electronics or RF communication systems; military experience is a plus
- Linux systems administration and configuring/maintaining network hardware
- Hands-on circuit repair/testing experience and use of lab repair and test equipment
- Knowledge of testing/troubleshooting systems using digital modulation techniques (e.g., BPSK, QPSK)
- Experience with Agile engineering and Atlassian tools (Confluence, JIRA)
- Experience with RS-232, RS-422, GPIB, TCP, UDP
- Programming/scripting in Perl, Python, C/C++, Java, Matlab, or LabVIEW
- Ham radio and SDR experience is beneficial
- Previous COMSEC experience and experience on related development contracts
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00; Salary Range 2: $124,900.00 - $187,300.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, candidate experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
Depending on the position, overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions. Long term incentives may apply for VP/Director roles.
