Role: Pastoral Support Mentor

Hours: 36.25 per week- Permanent - Term time only

Salary: £30,204.00 - £32,013.00 FTE

Employer Pension Contribution: 20.8%

Location: Stretford & Stockport (although requirements across the Group may require cover at other sites)

The Trafford &port College Group (TSCG) has a fantastic opportunity for a new Pastoral Support Mentor to join the Learner Services Team across various campuses to help us achieve our vision of unlocking potential and fostering success by helping young people to become their best self.

The Job:

In this role you will work collaboratively with learners to achieve and progress by supporting them in relation to their social and emotional wellbeing, their mental health and any personal and college issues that prevent them from achieving their potential. Key areas of responsibility include:

  • To undertake group and 1:1 meetings with a cohort of learners identified as requiring intervention.
  • To work collaboratively with the Centre Manager and curriculum teams to follow up concerns regarding achievement, retention and/or behaviour to create a tiered intervention approach.
  • To build and maintain supportive relationships (one to one and small groups) to assist in the personal and social development of students by providing appropriate guidance and support.
  • To assist the Centre Manager with all aspects of delivery of the Group’s mental health, emotional and social wellbeing strategy to provide support for the most vulnerable students at college.
  • To identify concerns, risks and barriers to students’ progress and work with parents/carers, colleagues and external agencies in order to overcome them.
  • To act as Designated Safeguarding Officer and act on student safeguarding referrals within the allocated departmental area, attending any relevant multi-agency meetings.

To be successful in this role you must have

  • Experience working with learners who have been identified as “at risk” and/or vulnerable
  • An understanding of safeguarding in line with the Child Protection and Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults Policy
  • Relationship practice at the heart of all interactions with learners
