Overview
Overhead Line and Underground Cabling Site Engineers UK Wide – Expression Of Interest. This role supports Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd across the UK, focusing on overhead lines (OHL) and underground cabling (UGC) projects. The position is site-based and involves travel across the UK to support foremen, timbermen, subcontractors, and stakeholders while maintaining safety and project documentation standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day Health & Safety for staff and subcontractors; report safety incidents and near misses.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage foremen, linesmen, timbermen; assist the Site Construction Manager with staff competencies and training.
- Control costs and monitor the financial status of the project area.
- Produce method statements, work instructions, and risk assessments.
- Provide the Project Manager with information for monthly reports and project change control.
- Plan and coordinate resources (plant, materials, labour) for projects.
- Determine material requirements and liaise with Procurement.
- Liaise with clients, third parties, and stakeholders; collect and collate QA documentation for final records.
- Support Site Construction Manager in developing target costs.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety and quality standards (OHSAS 18001/ISO 9001/ISO 14001 where applicable).
Qualifications
- Demonstrated industry experience in a similar role and/or recognised Engineering qualification in Civil or Electrical Engineering, or willingness to study towards a relevant qualification.
- Experience in site supervision of OHL/UGC contracts, with experience on steel tower construction at higher voltages (circa 132kV+).
- Experience with foundation construction in power transmission projects.
- Experience using Total Stations for setting out purposes.
- Experience managing sub-contractors and recording measurement details for financial settlement.
- Recognised Safety Qualification (e.g., IOSH or NEBOSH).
- Supervisory experience of technical construction aspects (access and accommodation works, traffic management, scaffolds, yard setup, welfare facilities, foundations, conductor and fittings replacement).
- Willingness to work away from home regularly and for extended periods.
- Proven coordination with third parties (local councils, highway authorities, environment agencies, Network Rail, DNOs, BT, National Grid, etc.).
- Driving license.
