Job description
Overview

We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. As a Shift Leader, you will be working in a fast paced retail environment where no day is the same. You will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean and full store that exceeds customer expectations. As the customer is at the heart of everything we do, you will be constantly looking for ways to improve service through on the job coaching and feedback. You will have a great understanding of how your store is performing and be the specialist in delivering practical actions for its improvement by taking a hands on approach. With your guidance, your store will always remain a safe place to work and shop.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the team to deliver the easiest shopping trip in the community
  • Open/close the store and completing duty cover, making sure all decisions are right for customers, colleagues, and everyone’s safety
  • Be the go-to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day-to-day operational queries
  • Support the Store Manager to co-ordinate seasonal, community and charity events, creating a great inclusive atmosphere
  • Ensure the store is always clean, tidy, and well presented
  • Prioritise the replenishment of products that matter to our customers
  • Ensure point of sale and shelf edge labels reflect what good looks like
  • Take immediate action for any overcharges and prevent any reoccurrence
  • Proactively manage queues in store to deliver a great shopping trip for our customers
  • Coordinate colleagues to deliver daily priorities and manage breaks in line with trade patterns
  • Be knowledgeable about the store, coordinating others to deliver practical actions to make improvements
  • Follow company health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same
  • Deliver effective communication to the team and keep colleagues informed
  • Look for ways to simplify operations and share ideas with the Store Manager
  • Always prioritise the customer and adapt service to meet their needs
  • Resolve customer queries and leave customers with a positive experience
  • Recognise and celebrate colleagues delivering great service
  • Identify and remove obstacles to delivering great service
  • Resolve colleague queries in the Store Manager’s absence or escalate as appropriate
  • Ensure the store is staffed appropriately and arrange cover for short-term absences
  • Act as a recognised Keyholder and attend alarm call outs to ensure safety and security
  • Monitor internal communications and ensure timely action and informing colleagues
  • Coordinate teams to meet customer and store needs, feeding back issues to the Store Manager
  • Balance time between service and replenishment areas
  • Support the Store Manager in managing absence, conduct return-to-work interviews, and report absence in line with One Stop policy
  • Develop relationships with Area Manager & People Partner; seek timely coaching opportunities
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, perform day-to-day Post Office operations and pass required background checks
