Ara Institute of Canterbury is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Nursing team in a full-time, fixed-term role through to October 2026. Based at our Manawa Campus, you’ll teach clinical courses across our Bachelor and Diploma programmes, working alongside experienced nurse educators. This role suits someone passionate about nursing education, whether you're an experienced educator or looking to transition into teaching. You'll to Ara’s commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Māori learner success, while helping shape the future of healthcare in Aotearoa.

You’ll be part of a supportive team of experienced nurse educators, with potential to engage in research. Flexibility to work across programmes is essential, along with a passion for nursing and education. This role is suited to both seasoned educators and nurses looking to transition into teaching.

  • Registered Nurse with current NZ Practicing Certificate
  • A postgraduate qualification, preferably a master’s degree in Nursing or related discipline (or an approved plan to complete within 4 years)
  • Current industry/discipline knowledge in general nursing such as acute medical- surgical, rehabilitation, primary health care, older persons health.
  • A minimum of three years full time clinical experience as a registered nurse.
  • Clinical and educational qualifications and skills that support teaching of nursing.
  • A broad range of clinical practice and skills.
  • Vision, innovation and a commitment to facilitating own and others’ learning.
  • Capable of supporting students to achieve their learning outcomes.
  • Digital literacy including – competence using a computer (including Microsoft office products)
  • Effective communication with a diverse range of others, at all levels within and outside the organisation
  • Passionate about nursing and the opportunities to improve practice or give back to nursing through education.
