Job Overview

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) is excited to introduce nursing care within our Transitional Care Service across the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) and Nottingham City Hospital campuses. We are seeking enthusiastic, compassionate Band 5 Neonatal Transitional Care Nurses to help shape the future of care for babies and their families.

Main Duties of the Job

Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe, family‑centred neonatal care in a high‑support environment.
  • Administer IV medications and peripheral blood samples as required.
  • Supervise non‑registered staff and students, ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Prioritise and delegate workload, managing a caseload of patients effectively.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and monitor patient progress.
  • Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and associated services.
Qualifications & Training
  • NMC Registration (Adult or Children’s Nurse).
  • Competence in medicines management.
  • Up‑to‑date NLS (Neonatal Life Support) training; NLS provider status required.
  • Qualified in a relevant specialty or related subject.
  • Experience in feeding babies, including breast and nasogastric tube feeding.
  • Strengthened skills in blood taking and clinical competence required.
Experience
  • Previous experience working with neonatal patients.
  • Experience supervising non‑registered staff and students.
  • Proficiency in feeding babies and recording feeding details.
Key Skills and Competencies
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic IT competence.
  • Self‑awareness of competence and limitation, with ability to communicate these to appropriate staff.
  • Adept at planning, organising and prioritising workload, recognising urgent and emergency situations.
  • Technical skill in using medical equipment, undertaking clinical procedures, and manual handling.
