Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mixed Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a friendly, independent practice in the beautiful rural surroundings of Powys, near the Shropshire border. This long-established practice has been at the heart of its local community for many years, providing exceptional care to both farm animals and pets. With a strong reputation and a loyal client base reflected in a 4.5/5 Google rating, the team prides itself on delivering traditional, personal service backed by modern clinical standards — and even provides its own out-of-hours care.

Role

This position would suit a confident mixed animal vet with a real passion for large animal work. The caseload includes approximately 50% dairy, 25% beef and 25% sheep, offering a healthy variety of clinical cases and routine visits. You’ll work closely with dairy herds ranging from small family farms to large commercial operations, gaining hands-on experience in health planning, herd management, and preventative care.

The practice offers a compact working area, meaning less time on the road and more time doing what you love — providing quality veterinary care and building lasting relationships with clients.

Team

The team consists of 14 dedicated vets, including seven senior veterinary surgeons with an impressive combined experience of over 250 years, supported by a skilled nursing and support team. They are a welcoming, collaborative group who take pride in the standards of care they offer and in supporting each other’s growth.

What’s on Offer
  • 1 in 5 rota, alternating first and second on-call
  • 4.5-day working week with time off in lieu for weekends worked
  • Vehicle provided
  • Professional subscriptions paid
  • CPD allowance and in-house training every two months
  • Staff discount on pet treatment
  • 24 days holiday
  • Supportive, close-knit team culture
