About The Role

Role Purpose
  • A critical leadership role responsible for the safe planning, execution, and oversight of all lifting operations on a major construction project.
  • The Lifting Manager ensures full compliance with BS 7121, LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations), and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations), while coordinating lifting activities to support efficient project delivery.
  • This includes pre‑construction co‑ordination with project teams, site survey, lifting equipment and lifting accessories specification, risk assessments, lift plans, and collaboration with contractors and crane suppliers.
  • The role also involves auditing lifting operations, managing lifting equipment, and promoting a safety‑first culture across the site.
What you’ll be doing
  • Support the employer’s contractual requirements in relation to project lifting management.
  • Ensure all operations adhere to laws, guidelines, and ISO requirements.
  • Develop and implement project‑specific lift plans in accordance with BS 7121 standards.
  • Ensure all lifting operations comply with LOLER and PUWER regulations.
  • Conduct risk assessments and lift plans for complex, intermediate and basic lifts, prepare and coordinate lift schedules, and ensure compliance and adequate supervision on lifting at all times.
  • Manage lifting equipment inspections, certifications, and maintenance schedules.
  • Coordinate with site teams, crane operators, lift supervisors and subcontractors to ensure safe lifting practices.
  • Monitor and audit lifting operations to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of lifting activities, equipment logs, and incident reports in conjunction with the HSEQ management team and site management teams.
  • Advise on crane selection, positioning, and ground conditions.
  • Support the development of Health & Safety and Environmental plans with lifting‑specific input.
  • Lead toolbox talks, training sessions and crane meetings related to lifting safety.
  • Investigate lifting‑related incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with logistics and construction teams to align lifting operations with project milestones.
  • Champion cost‑effective lifting solutions and identify opportunities for operational enhancements.
  • Champion innovation and learning in your teams and with the operational teams.
Who we’re looking for
  • Experience in a similar role within the geotechnical discipline.
  • CPCS Appointed Person (Lifting Operations) certification.
  • Proven experience in managing lifting operations on large‑scale construction projects.
  • In‑depth knowledge of BS 7121, LOLER and PUWER regulations.
  • Strong understanding of crane types, lifting accessories and rigging techniques.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and problem‑solving skills.
  • Effective communication and leadership abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and lift planning software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and drive a safety culture.
