Job description
Learning Coach – Cardiff and Vale College
  • Salary: £25,833 – £28,038 pro rata (based on an FTE salary of £29,874 – £32,423 per annum)

Cardiff and Vale College is looking for a Learning Coach with experience in wellbeing and skill development to join our Learner Journey team. The post holder will support learners with basic skills, study skills, wellbeing and pastoral issues, offering one‑to‑one and group support, signposting to internal and external support and enabling learners to retain, attain and complete their college journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support students making university applications, guiding UCAS personal statement writing and format.
  • Deliver screening and initial assessments using the Wales Essential Skills Toolkit (WEST) and collect results for induction and staff.
  • Assist teaching staff in utilising WEST to ensure completion of initial assessments and progression of learners.
  • Be part of the mental health first aid team and provide general advice on a range of issues.
  • Support tutors when learners experience personal crisis to ensure learning continues uninterrupted.
  • Create Wellbeing Service and Safety plans for vulnerable and highly vulnerable learners.
Qualifications and Attributes
  • Level 3 education in a relevant qualification and a GCSE Maths and English (Grade C or above).
  • Experience working within an educational environment.
  • Excellent communication and superb organisational skills.
  • Commitment to providing high quality learner support.
  • Fluency in Welsh is a plus but not essential.
