About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a KDB Developer to work for our client within the banking sector. This is initially a 12 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

Our client is seeking a KDB developer to support our client's eFX technology team, who are responsible for developing and maintaining applications and services that form the core of the electronic FX business line. These services include connectivity to markets, multi-dealer venues, pricing engines, trader tools, and support for FX spot, forwards, options, and deposits. The team leverages KDB+ for real-time analytics, client toxicity analysis, back-testing, and trading strategy parameterization.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain KDB+/q-based solutions for pricing, risk management, and MIS reporting.
  • Work closely with FX front office teams to gather requirements and deliver analytics that support trading algorithms and P&L.
  • Prototype solutions in an agile environment with short feedback cycles.
  • Perform analysis and manipulation of large datasets in high-frequency, low-latency environments.
  • Provide technical design, architecture, and infrastructure expertise to expand the KDB+ footprint.
  • Participate in all stages of product delivery: design, functional specs, unit testing, and build.
  • Offer 3rd-line support for KDB+ production systems.
  • Engage in sprint planning, estimation, and provide regular status updates.
  • Occasionally participate in out-of-hours releases.
About You
  • 2–5 years of hands‑on experience with KDB+/q in a financial services or trading environment.
  • Strong understanding of time‑series data and real‑time analytics.
  • Familiarity with UNIX/Linux OS.
  • Knowledge of software delivery processes and agile methodologies.
  • Ability to work with large, high‑frequency datasets.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering (or equivalent).
Desirable Skills
  • Exposure to FX front office or quantitative finance.
  • Knowledge of Altair Panopticon.
  • Experience with Java (multithreading, low latency) and SQL.
  • Understanding of FIX protocols, ECNs, and FX pricing algorithms.
