Job description

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Jointer / Fitter to join the team based in Glasgow to cover projects in Scotland.

As a Jointer, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical power cables and equipment. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable transmission of electricity by performing cable jointing, termination, and testing tasks in accordance with industry standards and regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities
Cable Jointing and Termination
  • Prepare and install electrical power cables, including low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) cables, using various jointing and termination techniques.
  • Perform cable splicing, connecting conductors, and sealing joints and terminations using appropriate materials and methods.
Fault Diagnosis and Repair
  • Identify and diagnose faults in electrical cables and equipment using testing and diagnostic tools, such as insulation resistance testers, cable fault locators, and thermal imaging cameras.
  • Carry out repairs, replacements, and remedial works to restore cable integrity and ensure continuity of electrical supply.
Testing and Commissioning
  • Conduct electrical tests and commissioning activities on cable joints, terminations, and associated equipment to verify performance, insulation resistance, and electrical continuity.
  • Interpret test results, analyse data, and troubleshoot any anomalies or deviations from specifications.
Health and Safety Compliance
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, procedures, and protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe work practices, and risk assessments.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions to promote a culture of safety awareness and compliance.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Complete accurate and detailed records of work activities, including job sheets, test reports, and as-built drawings.
  • Report any incidents, near misses, or safety hazards to the supervisor or safety officer promptly and participate in incident investigations as required.
Skills and Experience
  • Relevant vocational qualification in electrical engineering or a related field (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds) is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in cable jointing and termination techniques for LV, MV, and HV electrical cables.
  • Knowledge of electrical principles, standards, and regulations related to cable installation, testing, and commissioning (e.g., BS 7671, IEC standards).
  • Competency in using electrical testing equipment and diagnostic tools, and interpreting test results.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to different work sites as required.
